Call for Experts

DeSIRA-LIFT is calling for two experts to conduct a scoping study on the off-farm production and marketing of organic fertilizers and bio-fertilizers in Africa. This study will feed into the programming and policy dialogues of the European Commission (in particular DG INTPA) on the issue of soil fertility and the use of (organic) fertilizers in Africa.

The scoping study should provide a rapid analysis of the ecosystem of organic and bio-fertilizers (the actors, the types and quantities produced, the type of demand, challenges and opportunities) based on 12 country case studies across each African sub-region. The scoping study will be desk-based making use of (grey) literature and key informant interviews. The study needs to be completed in February 2023.

The profiles of the two experts are:

• Senior expert:
  • at least 12 years’ professional experience in international development, soil fertility management
  • knowledge of organic and bio-fertilizers in Africa; relevant network across Africa
  • number of days: max of 25 days between December 2022 and February 2023
  • fee: 700 euro per day

• Junior expert:
  • at least 3 years’ professional experience in international development, soil fertility management
  • knowledge of organic and bio-fertilizers in Africa is preferred
  • number of days: max of 60 days between December 2022 and February 2023
  • fee: 450 euro per day

The two experts are expected to collaborate closely as a team. Joint applications are encouraged. Please see the ToRs (links above in green) for more information.
